Today is my big day! Cause I’m going to have my first actual teaching. I was so nervous, and even if I’ve prepared everything, still I feel that feeling where my heart beat faster than usual. Beside that it’s my special day, it’s also special day for Saint Paul too, because they’re going to welcome a new principle, Sister Theresa. The welcoming ceremony start in the morning by giving a warm speech from the new principal, then it’s continue with welcoming speech from elementary, junior , and senior high school student.
After welcoming new principal, everything run normally, I went to ABM for become maam Ariar’s assistant until 10 o’clock. Then it’s 10 o’clock. It’s time for me to go back to the dormitory. Some of my friends, as usual, they shared they experience in the class, some of them are also having their first day of actual teaching. To be honest, I do like to hear their experience and can’t wait to have my own too! But it’s still 4.5 hours left. So, I spend my free time to study more about the topic today and try to relax instead of being nervous.
It’s almost 15.15 PM, as maam Ariar said I have to come earlier. So , I come earlier due to preparation for everything. Then I entered the class. At the first time, I’m not directly taking control all over the class. Before the class was started, maam Ariar told the class that today I’m going to be the one who discussed “job oppprtunities” with them.
I start the class with asking one of the student to lead us pray, then the students gave me greeting “Good afternoon maam, we’re glad to see you, Paulinian please to you”. Then, I start to introduce my self. And since it’s my first day, I ask each of the students to introduce their name one by one. After we’re finish with the introduction, I started to open my slide presentation and give a short lecture about the topic. During the short lecture, i’ll ask several questions to them to let them express their opinion.

And after that I continue the class activity with a group activity, this time I ask them to do a role play for to represent several value that I’ve explained to them. I give them 30 minutes to do some preparation. I’ll give them time to do the role play less than 5 minutes. The role play was success! The students are really taking seriously with their role during the role play. At the end of the class, I surprise them by saying that I’ll give Indonesian souvenirs to the best performance, and they were surprised! Some of them are kinda sad because they feel they don’t give the best of them during the role play. Then, to end up the meeting I ask them to write down a conclusion of our lesson today, it’s part of evaluation from me to ensure how much the students feeling towards the lesson, to check if they already fulfilled the objective of our lesson. Then we start to do the pray which was lead by one of the student in HUMSS 1 and greet me with “ Goodbye and thank you miss Dina, have a nice day , paulinian please to you”. And that’s how I start my first actual teaching, it was relieving and also challenging. But thank god I did it successfully, although maam Ariar told me that I forget to mention the objectives at the beginning of the class but she said that my performance today was a good start. She said that I can give relative example very good. Then I go back to my dormitory with a smile on my face.
