• Purposes of Practicum

The aim of this practicum is to develop several skills such as :

    1. Teaching skills

It is hoped that from this practicum a student-teacher or even a students who wants to be a teacher in a future are having a good teaching skills, pedagogical skills which is important. With this practicum, student-teacher will have an exchange experience regarding teaching skills from another countries that might be beneficial to each parties.

 

     2.English skills

Approximately 375 million people speak English which make English become primary language in international scale. It is important for future teacher to able speak in English because in this globalization era, there’s no more borders for each country to interact each other which requires them to speak in International language. This practicum has purposes to increase English skills among it’s participant so when they go back to their homeland, they’ll being more developed not only as an ordinary local student-teacher, but as an local student-teacher with international skills.

 

       3. New perspectives

This practicum requires it’s participant to travel and stay for a month in several ASEAN countries. During their stay, it’s hoped that they’ll have an exchange experience, either a cultural experience, or even teaching experience. The aim of this practicum is to broaden experience, knowledge towards their participants.

• Procedures of Practicum

Procedures of this practicum are:

1. Participant must fill and submit application form

2. Selected participants will have an online orientation from SEAMEO secretariat

3. Practicum (observation, actual teaching)

4. Evaluation

 

• Outcomes of Practicum

1. Student-teachers are developed in teaching skills

2. Student-teachers are having increase in terms of English skills

3. Student-teachers have more perspective regarding culture, knowledge, teaching skills, etc.

 

• The challenges of practicum :

• One of the challenge during my practicum is the culture itself, from different culture that Indonesia-Philipphines had, the weather, the food, until the accent of the local people in Philipphine who had different accent from Indonesian. Luckily, the buddies help us to understand local culture, and during my actual teaching I learn a lot in terms of Filippino’s accent , until I arrived in Indonesia, sometime when I speak English I still use filippino’s acent.

• Wi-fi connection

During my practicum, wi-fi connection is my challenge. Because the low connection of wi-fi I feel difficult to find materials and update my blog.

 

• Overall Impression

“ A moment to remember “ that’s the right word to describe my overall impression towards this program. From this program, I can develop lots of skills, my teaching skills, English skills, survival skills, and broaden my knowledge and perspectives about everything. From this program, I also learn new methods in terms of teaching and class management from my cooperate teacher. Lastly, from this program, I found a new little family that I’ll never forget and all of this prestigious moment will be one of many stories that I’ll share to my kids in the future.

 

• Suggestions for future improvement

For me, SEA Teacher has been a good program and well organized, but I do hope there will be more countries and universities can join this program.
